A LITTLE MORE ABOUT DR. MARK
Dr. Mark Cummings is thrilled to open a pediatric dentistry office in North Durham. He attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry. He then continued onto the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Upon graduation, he began work as a general dentist in the Fayetteville area.
Throughout his undergraduate and graduate studies, he spent time assisting in pediatric dental offices, also participating in pediatric focused rotations in dental school, and was involved in pediatric dental research at the UNC School of Dentistry. As a general dentist, Dr. Mark worked with many adult patients who had a fear of receiving dental treatment. He learned that for most of these patients, this fear stemmed from experiences at the dentist as a child. During this time, he developed a true passion to help his youngest patients through their toughest times in the dental chair. He realized that by starting with positive dental experiences early in a child’s life, this would foster a brighter dental future.
After working four years as a general dentist, he returned to training and completed a two-year Pediatric Dental Residency at East Carolina University. Advanced training in pediatric care allows him to focus on creating a positive relationship with and specialize treatment for his younger patients. He has been enjoying doing what he loves and knows best since 2018. He now looks forward to working with Durham’s greatest dental patients in an environment where they feel safe and have fun going to the dentist!
Dr. Mark loves to spend his free time with his wife, Caitlin, and two daughters, Sophia and Capel. When he is not in the office, you can find him outside in his garden.
He enjoys growing hot peppers for spicy recipes, tomatoes and garlic for homemade marinara sauce and tending to his roses and Japanese Maples.

We’ve been bringing our daughters to Dr. Cummings for the past four years, and we couldn’t be happier with the care they receive. He is incredibly thorough, patient, and truly listens to any concerns we have. He takes the time to explain everything clearly, making sure us parents and our kids feel comfortable.
