For Patients
COMPASSIONATE KIDS DENTAL CARE, ONE SMILE AT A TIME.
At North Durham Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that your child’s dental health is a big part of their overall well-being. Whether you’re preparing for a first visit or looking for answers to insurance questions, we’re here to make things simple. Our warm, caring approach to kids dental care is one of the many reasons families trust us as the best new dentist in Durham for young patients.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT
Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can ensure all paperwork is completed and your insurance is verified.
When you arrive, you and your child will be greeted with a smile by our friendly team. If you have dental insurance, bring your plan details so we can verify and file your claim for you. You may be asked to fill out a few quick forms to help us get to know your family better.
Your child will be introduced to our space and staff in a way that feels calm, safe, and even fun. The appointment includes:
-
A complete dental exam and cleaning
-
A gentle assessment of oral growth and development
-
Simple tips for good brushing habits at home
-
X-rays, if needed
A legal guardian must accompany your child to their first appointment. If someone else will bring them in the future, we’ll provide an easy way to give your consent in advance. If your child has special needs, please call us ahead of time so we can provide the right support and accommodations.
What you need before your visit
When scheduling your appointment, we’ll collect your child’s medical history and insurance information. This lets us confirm coverage and give you a clear picture of any expected costs—no surprises.
When Should I Schedule My Child’s First Visit?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends bringing your child in within 6 months of their first tooth or by their first birthday. This early start helps us build trust, track development, and catch small issues early—when they’re easiest to treat.
-
Talk about the dentist in a positive, simple way.
-
Let them know we’ll count and clean their teeth and teach them how to care for their smile.
-
Bring along a favorite toy or comfort item if it helps them relax.
-
Let them know they may even leave with a small prize!
Tip: Practice brushing and flossing together at home to help your child build confidence and comfort with dental care.
How to Help Your Child Feel Ready
Dr. Mark is amazing! My son had multiple cavities, and Dr. Mark recommended a treatment plan that we could all be comfortable with and that was most appropriate for his age. Even after having cavities filled, my son now loves going to the dentist because Dr. Mark is fun and loving and makes him feel at ease.
